Summer is here!  My daughters finished school last week so it’s only a matter of time before the “craft cabinet” at our house will need re-stocking!  I hope to focus some of their creativity this summer on making cards for their friends and cousins, and also a couple easy albums that they can decorate the front of, then include some fun snapshots of the summer activities they choose as their favorites.  During the summer they go through paper, stickers, glue and glitter like water, so here are a few of the fun supplies I’ll be bringing home this week:

Letter stickers

My daughter Caroline is 5 and is learning how to read and spell.   She loves making words on cards and on her drawings with letter stickers.  We’ve got lots to choose from at Archiver’s, but with my girls’ obsession with anything sparkly, their favorites are always the Doodlebug glittery cardstock sticker letters!

Fringe scissors

I discovered these fringe scissors from Martha Stewart earlier this year and my daughters think they’re awesome.  They love making fringe on the bottom and edges of just about anything; we did have a lengthy discussion about these scissors being ONLY for paper in the craft cabinet, never for clothes, curtains, or hair!  :)

Anything with an American Girl theme

My daughters each have an American girl doll that goes with them just about everywhere.  They love the fun project kits and especially the sticker packs with the dolls dressed in all their different outfits and accessories.

Photo Albums

The Kolo Noci album is a perfect quick project idea for kids.  They can decorate the cover and a few inside pages with stickers, then include photos of their favorite summer activities, friends and even some fun journaling.

Harness your kids’ creativity this summer and make something fun together!

More than any other time of year, I’m always on the lookout for fun kids’ activities during the summer.  My girls are 7 and 4 and they absolutely love everything to do with crafts.  They love to drag out all the paper, scissors, glue, crayons, markers, stickers and stamps they can find and just create.  Every day when I get home from work, there are two proud artists and dozens of handmade treasures waiting for me.  They really love to “make stuff” and I love this about them, even when I’m picking up hundreds of tiny paper scraps and empty sticker sheets and scrubbing marker and ink off of my kitchen table.

Now that my kids are done with school for the summer, they’ve got more time on their hands for crafting and our supplies are disappearing more quickly than usual.  On a recent trip to Archiver’s to pick up supplies and lots of hot spot stickers, I also picked up a couple of kids’ kits to try.

The girls created Father’s Day cards with the Sticker Cards kit which turned out really cute and more importantly, they had a blast making them.

Although they both somehow managed to create cards that open on the wrong side, they couldn’t be cuter.  My favorite is Caroline’s design showing herself and Daddy on rollerskates together, with an upside-down guitar  :)    I can’t wait to see their creations with the scrapbook kits!

I love their passion for “making stuff” and I hope it continues as they grow.    Whether you try a kit, our kids’ workshop, or just some cardstock and scissors, get your kids going on “making stuff” this summer too.  It’s a great activity you can do together now, and for many years to come.  Maybe someday, they’ll even help Mom pick up the paper scraps!

It’s that time of year again; time to panic that I haven’t researched or signed up my kids for any summer activities yet.  It’s unbelievable how quickly their activities fill up and I’m out of luck until next year (when I will forget to do it early again!).  One activity that I know I’m not too late to sign up for is going on at Archiver’s this summer.

If you’re like me and looking for fun things for your kids to do this summer, add Camp Creativity at Archiver’s to your list.  Your kids (8 and older) will get to make a summer mini-album and have a great time while they learn about scrapbooking.  The album is really cool too – our designers created it using the new Boardwalk collection from Little Yellow Bicycle and the kids will get to take home a bunch of extra stickers and embellishments from the collection to use after the class too.

Last summer was the first time we offered a kids’ class at Archiver’s and we were delighted to get so many positive comments after the class.  We heard from parents and kids, (both boys and girls) about how much fun it was and that they couldn’t wait to take it again next summer.  Get your kids in on the fun too – call and sign up today!

We have always made handmade Valentines in my house. It is something I look forward to every year. This year, Molly inspired me with her creative lollipop idea posted last week. We changed things up a little at our house, because my son informed me that “first graders don’t give each other girl stuff”.  So, using some scrap cardstock and Transformers stickers, we “manned-up” some transformer lollipops for my son’s friends. We spent an hour working together. We chatted about his day, talked about his friends…and used up some of my aging scrapbooking supplies. It was some of the most quality and enjoyable time I have spent with him all week.

Craft with your kids. You will instill a life long love of creativity and memory keeping if you do this with them while they are young. I have boys, but they love to make projects as much as my friend’s daughters do. Will loved his Valentine results and had fun doing it. I even got an “I love you mom” at the end of the night.….mission accomplished for both of us.

I first saw this idea in a magazine and had to try them myself. Punch basic shapes like circles and scalloped circles to match the size of your sucker. You can decorate with just about anything from stickers to die-cuts to photos! Perfect for school parties, baby showers, birthday parties, wedding favors and on and on and on. I’m going to make them for my son’s graduation party this year! :) This is a perfect project for your “little” crafter too…super easy. I LOVE stuff like this!
