It may be only the middle of October, but I’m already thinking ahead to this year’s handmade holiday card. I always make handmade cards to send to my loved ones during the holidays–no store-bought cards for this girl! For me, making my own cards is so much fun and I love putting together something that’s really unique. To make the process a little easier, I like to decide on a design and stock up on my card supplies early, instead of in November and December when things get really busy.

If you’re like me and want to start thinking about your handmade card, here are a few ideas:

Lots of people write newsletters to include with their holiday cards. For a fun twist, mat your newsletter on colorful cardstock and then include a patterned paper band, photo, and ribbon. It’s a newsletter and card, all in one cute design!

Don’t put pressure on yourself to have the “perfect” family photo! Instead, use a photo that you really like or a collage of photos taken throughout the year.

Holiday cards don’t have to be red and green! A square punch and a few sheets of patterned paper is all it takes to create this colorful card.

Archiver’s has a coordinating line of cards, envelopes and labels (called Yours Truly) which I have been using for holiday and birthday cards for years. The problem with the line? With all the colors we carried, there was no suitable bright pink in the assortment. And if you’ve got daughters, granddaughters, or nieces, like me, you know what a big deal this is. Starting at about age 2, they want EVERYTHING to be pink. You can maybe get away with purple every now and then, but pink is really where it’s at. I have made quite a few birthday party invites and valentines over the years for and with my girls and had to trim cardstock for the cards and go without matching envelopes, so you can imagine how excited I was to hear that we have now added fuschia to our mix of Yours Truly colors!

Check out this adorable card with easy, matching, lined envelopes that Molly created for one of our customer emails. SO cute, and doesn’t this Fuschia work just perfectly with the darling De Lovely collection from Cosmo Cricket too? Adorable, pink, and sassy just like my girls. Love it!
