23 Days til Christmas! Need some cool handmade gift ideas?

Only 23 days left until Christmas, so it’s time to get going on handmade gifts and home decor!

Here are a couple cool ideas from the staff at our store in Algonquin, IL. Every year, the store employees have a creative gift exchange, where each staff member creates and receives a handmade gift, and boy are these ladies creative! The amazing gifts they create are a thing of beauty! I’m so glad they snapped a few pictures and sent them my way, because now I get to share my favorites with you!

How cool is this tree made out of Rosettes? You can use the Martha Stewart Scoring Board and the I Believe collection from My Mind’s Eye to create one just like it. Adorable holiday decor for your own house, or for a fun handmade gift or centerpiece!

Tim Holtz fans, you’re going to love the vintage look of this piece! This Tim Holtz configurations box was decorated using 7Gypsies paper tape and Tim Holtz feet foundations, then filled with all sorts of fun personal holiday treasures. I’m thinking this would be a cool way to safely display some really old and fragile ornaments I have that belonged to my Grandmother. Love it!

Creative home decor that could be worth $500!

I am LOVING the 7gypsies photo trays that everyone is talking about lately. Have you seen them? They’re available in three different sizes that you can fill with photos, embellishments, patterned paper, even ATC cards. Once we saw a few decorated trays and thought of all the cool possibilities, we couldn’t wait to spread the word and what better way to do it than a contest? We started with an employee contest to get tons of great ideas to share – check out some of my favorite entries!

This one is my personal favorite (designed by the staff at our Castleton, IN store) of all the entries from our 44 stores. It’s even cooler in person, with tons of layered detail.

Here’s another favorite of mine designed by our Novi, MI store staff. Aren’t the heritage photos just perfect with this tray design? I’m adding this idea to my holiday to-do list to create a gift for my grandma and my mom.

This tray was the winning design from our employee contest, designed by our Overland Park, KS store staff. LOVE those big blue eyes peeking through the frame!

Check out this adorable design from our Woodbury, MN store. They painted the tray white which works perfect with their baby theme. Darling!

Now that you’re inspired, here comes the fun part. There’s a customer contest too! Check out the contest details on our website and get going on your entry! Once the entries are in, customers in each of our stores will vote, and we’ll award a $100 gift card to the chosen favorite from each store; that’s 44 $100 gift card winners! Then, the 44 winners will be displayed during ScrapFest in September where a grand prize winner will be chosen to win $500 in cash!

Think about it this way:

Best case scenario, you design a tray and enter it into our contest and win a $100 Archiver’s gift card, $500 in cash, AND you end up with a beautiful piece of art to hang in your home.

Worst case scenario, you don’t win any prizes, but you still end up with a beautiful piece of original art to hang in your home.

Pick of the Week: 7Gypsies Photo Tray

One of the great things about doing a home decor project, is there’s a finished product! Scrapbooking is never-ending so I like having a project that has a stopping point once in a while.

My favorite product of the week is a home decor piece from 7Gypsies (love them!). It’s called a Printers Tray and we have 2 size options; one has 4×6 openings and one has lots of various sized openings. I used the 7Gypsies Venice collection to scrapbook directly into this wooden tray. Full instructions available online
