Well, Labor Day has passed, which means summer is officially over.  While I will miss daylight until 9:00 pm and bare feet, I always get excited in the fall to get back into a regular routine.  My kids are back in school, activities are starting up again, the weather is cooling down here in Minnesota which means I get to dig out all my favorite sweaters and boots and enjoy more cozy indoor activities.

For me, September is as much a time for resolutions as January.  It’s the time of year when I get back to the things I’ve ignored all summer like my kitchen, my to-do list, and my hobbies, especially scrapbooking.  This year, I am planning to commit to regular scrapbooking nights with a few friends.  We’re going to try an every other month get-together at Archiver’s.  We all want to catch up on scrapbooking and also with each other so we thought this would be a really fun way to do it.  Plus, every Friday and Saturday night is crop night at Archiver’s and it’s free.  Check out the details and get some friends together.  Now is the time to get back into the swing of things and catch up on your albums.  Happy scrapping!

Check out this classy invitation idea from our site.  It’s got all the things I look for in a handmade invite: great details, classic colors and design, and most importantly, it looks much more difficult to make than it really is!  My favorite detail is the cool flower that embellishes the envelope, and it’s so easy to accomplish because it’s just a punch!  Impress the guests at your next party or shower – the fact that it was this easy will be our little secret!

OK, I know it’s only August 10th, but I am loving the new Halloween products that are already on our shelves!  Below are some of my favorites; I absolutely adore the little saltwater taffy-like embellishments from Martha Stewart!  A bunch of cute Halloween stuff  has also arrived from K&Company, Little Yellow Bicycle, Graphic 45, and more.

I’m feeling inspired enough to finally get out last year’s Halloween pictures (yeah, I’m a little behind!) and create some adorable pages; how about you?

We’ve been hard at work for months getting ready for ScrapFest and finally the time has come that we get to share all of this year’s details with you! ScrapFest is planned for September 17 – 19 at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN.  It’s an annual event that brings scrapbookers, cardmakers and papercrafters together from all over the world; literally, we’ve had people travel from Australia, Brazil, Canada, and all over the US, that’s how much fun this event is! I am LOVING the 7gypsies photo trays that everyone is talking about lately.  Have you seen them?  They’re available in three different sizes that you can fill with photos, embellishments, patterned paper, even ATC cards.   Once we saw a few decorated trays and thought of all the cool possibilities, we couldn’t wait to spread the word and what better way to do it than a contest?  We started with an employee contest to get tons of great ideas to share – check out some of my favorite entries! More than any other time of year, I’m always on the lookout for fun kids’ activities during the summer.  My girls are 7 and 4 and they absolutely love everything to do with crafts.  They love to drag out all the paper, scissors, glue, crayons, markers, stickers and stamps they can find and just create.  Every day when I get home from work, there are two proud artists and dozens of handmade treasures waiting for me.  They really love to “make stuff” and I love this about them, even when I’m picking up hundreds of tiny paper scraps and empty sticker sheets and scrubbing marker and ink off of my kitchen table.

Now that my kids are done with school for the summer, they’ve got more time on their hands for crafting and our supplies are disappearing more quickly than usual.  On a recent trip to Archiver’s to pick up supplies and lots of hot spot stickers, I also picked up a couple of kids’ kits to try.

The girls created Father’s Day cards with the Sticker Cards kit which turned out really cute and more importantly, they had a blast making them.

Although they both somehow managed to create cards that open on the wrong side, they couldn’t be cuter.  My favorite is Caroline’s design showing herself and Daddy on rollerskates together, with an upside-down guitar  :)    I can’t wait to see their creations with the scrapbook kits!

I love their passion for “making stuff” and I hope it continues as they grow.    Whether you try a kit, our kids’ workshop, or just some cardstock and scissors, get your kids going on “making stuff” this summer too.  It’s a great activity you can do together now, and for many years to come.  Maybe someday, they’ll even help Mom pick up the paper scraps!

I found this idea from a cool blog I enjoy called Eighteen25.

Their teacher appreciation gift idea translated perfectly as a way to add a little extra something to a birthday gift for one of my good friends.  She and I share an obsession for both wine and chocolate so I couldn’t think of a better gift than a little of each.

It only took me about a half hour to substitute cute patterned paper and ribbon for the chocolate wrapper and create a fun tag to attach to the wine that reads, “You deserve chocolate and wine.  (It is your birthday after all!)”.  She loved the gift and I felt an extra little burst of pride when she said, “You always make everything look so cute!”

Archiver’s has a coordinating line of cards, envelopes and labels (called Yours Truly) which I have been using for holiday and birthday cards for years.  The problem with the line?  With all the colors we carried, there was no suitable bright pink in the assortment.  And if you’ve got daughters, granddaughters, or nieces, like me, you know what a big deal this is. Starting at about age 2, they want EVERYTHING to be pink.  You can maybe get away with purple every now and then, but pink is really where it’s at.  I have made quite a few birthday party invites and valentines over the years for and with my girls and had to trim cardstock for the cards and go without matching envelopes, so you can imagine how excited I was to hear that we have now added fuschia to our mix of Yours Truly colors!

Check out this adorable card with easy, matching, lined envelopes that Molly created for one of our customer emails.  SO cute, and doesn’t this Fuschia work just perfectly with the darling De Lovely collection from Cosmo Cricket too?  Adorable, pink, and sassy just like my girls.  Love it!

My pick of the week?  Artist Printer’s Trays from 7gypsies.  So cool!  I’m planning on making one as a father’s day gift for my husband.

Molly inspired me with several cool samples she made for our stores, but I got really excited about the idea when she created the awesome design below as a birthday gift for the CEO of our company, John Morgan.  John is always making the rounds in the office chatting with everyone, staying in touch with all the work that’s going on, telling lots of funny stories and jokes, and checking out all the great samples and designs in Angie and Molly’s creative workroom.  John had seen some of Molly’s printer’s tray designs and commented on how much he liked them, and how the tray was such a classy item with so many cool possibilities.  It turned out to be a great gift idea for the man who has everything; personal art that tells the story of a really special day.

Unless you’re a die-hard Minnesota Twins fan like John is, you might not be aware of the fact that construction of a brand new Twins stadium was completed this spring in Minneapolis;  a proud and long-awaited moment for baseball fans in Minnesota!  The pictures featured in the tray were taken at the very first game in the new stadium, the home opener, which John and his grandson got to enjoy together.

It really was the perfect gift.  In fact, John called it the best present he had ever received.  It reminded me how cool it is to work for a company that provides the inspiration for special gifts and projects like this one.  We all have memories that we cherish.  Baseball games and trips to the beach, birthdays and first days of school; I’m glad I get to play a part in helping people make the most of their memories.  Make sure you take some time to enjoy your photos and memories too.  Whether it’s in a scrapbook or album, or displayed in a cool printer’s tray like Molly created for John, it will be something you’ll cherish for a long time to come.

It’s that time of year again; time to panic that I haven’t researched or signed up my kids for any summer activities yet.  It’s unbelievable how quickly their activities fill up and I’m out of luck until next year (when I will forget to do it early again!).  One activity that I know I’m not too late to sign up for is going on at Archiver’s this summer.

If you’re like me and looking for fun things for your kids to do this summer, add Camp Creativity at Archiver’s to your list.  Your kids (8 and older) will get to make a summer mini-album and have a great time while they learn about scrapbooking.  The album is really cool too – our designers created it using the new Boardwalk collection from Little Yellow Bicycle and the kids will get to take home a bunch of extra stickers and embellishments from the collection to use after the class too.

Last summer was the first time we offered a kids’ class at Archiver’s and we were delighted to get so many positive comments after the class.  We heard from parents and kids, (both boys and girls) about how much fun it was and that they couldn’t wait to take it again next summer.  Get your kids in on the fun too – call and sign up today!
