The ScrapFest inside scoop

Only 71 days until ScrapFest 2010! Many of us at the Archiver’s Home Office are hard at work putting the finishing touches on this year’s event. It’s going to be so much fun!

Never been to ScrapFest? Let me fill you in on the details:

  • All of the hottest brands will be there, including BasicGrey, Tim Holtz, Making Memories, American Crafts, Sizzix, Little Yellow Bicycle, and more.
  • With admission, you get to do over 30 Make & Take projects from your favorite brands at booths throughout the Mall of America.
  • Did I mention you get to meet creative experts? Tim Holtz, Heidi Swapp, Jennifer McGuire, and Melody Ross will be there, among others.
  • Sign up for fun crops and Create-it! Workshops, sponsored by your favorite brands and Archiver’s.

Today, I have a special sneak peek (shhhh!) of one of the most anticipated parts of the event–the Create-it! Workshops! Nearly all of the 70+ workshop projects have come across my desk within the last few weeks, and let me tell you, I think this year’s workshop offerings may be the best EVER. There really is something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned scrapbookers and card-makers. Plus, these workshops are packed with the hottest products and techniques–Glimmer Mist, Copic markers, altered art, canvas, embossing, tons of tools, and much more are all there!

Here are just a few workshops that I’m dying to share with all of you:

1. Hero Arts always has fabulous workshops, and this year is no exception. Just look at these gorgeous cards!

2. Banners and pennants are so popular right now–check out this canvas banner by Maya Road that you can make!

3. Who doesn’t love BasicGrey? I adore this page using their Max & Whiskers collection. Make this page–and more like it–in their workshop!

4. American Crafts is one of my favorite brands, and I really like this summery mini album workshop. You even get an 8×8 binder to put your pages in…wow!

Trust me, this is only the beginning!

Mark your calendars, because registration starts soon. Buy your event admission online and see all the workshop offerings beginning July 19th. Online workshop sign-ups start bright and early on July 27th! For all the details, click here.

I hope you are improving the make it-take it items. We always attend on Sunday and many booths are closing up early as they ran out of product but than standing next to me I have heard such comments as “I have been through this line 3 times” Is there some way you can limit people to one per person on the make it take its? It has been very frustrating the past two years when we travel 150 miles to attend and booths are closed. We pay the same amount to enter as everyone else but are shorted on product. Please improve!

I’ve stopped going because of the nastiness of a lot of the ladies pushing and shoving in the make n take lines. There needs to be some way of steamlining the process. While I love Tim Holtz and his classes I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle of going to MOA. I do like the Crop Around Towns, but it’s getting pretty pricey to do a six hour crop.

Looking forward to attending again this year with my mom. We are flying in from Detroit, MI on Thursday night. This will be our second year. Last year we did not arrive until Friday night. Saturday the lines for the make & takes were terrible, someone said that they are not as bad on Friday during the day so we will see. Can’t wait :) )))

This will be our 2nd year–very excited!! One suggestion I have is to have transportation for the “Crops Around Town”, of course, for a fee. We were told that the store in Roseville was about 20 minutes from MOA. We didn’t have a car and the taxi ride cost us $100 round trip!

    Thanks for the sneak preview.

This is my 4th Scrapfest and I wait in anticipation all year for this. I can’t wait for the sign ups. It’s such a long wait from the end of July to Scrapfest though. Anything you can do to make that time go by faster for me would be appreciated!!! LOL. I love the Create-It workshops. My friends and I mainly do them now because the lines for the make and takes are so long. A bus to the crops is a good idea. I would like that as well. I drive there so I have a car but I’m not very familiar with the northern suburbs.

I love the Crop Around Town and have done some fun workshops, but I agree about Make N Takes… there’s just no way to get through the lines when you have scheduled workshops to attend. And yet we are required to pay for the make-n-takes, which is a headache I could do without. Perhaps a punch-card system so people aren’t allowed to do one more than once? But line monitoring is an issue too – people holding places, cutting in line, etc. Very haphazard in that regard and really brings down the event. If you can fix that, I’ll sing the praises of ScrapFest though!!

I think our Archivers in Raleigh should get up a bus load (we’ll pay!) so all us good customers can go with the archivers girls to Scrapfest! It is so far!

This will be my first year, I can’t wait. My husband is driving me from Beloit. He will golf while I am at the scrapfest. I was looking at the helpful hints for registration and it says to log in ahead of time for practice? Where do you log in?

Well this certaintly looks interesting! I will be flying in from Walla Walla Washington along with two other gals from our state. I do hope I’m able to get in at least one Make and Take. Sounds like it is tuff. It would be a shame after flying that far to not get into one. I think the punch card is a great idea.
I also would like to know where to log in???

Love the lineup. This will be my fourth if I can swing it. All crafters will enjoy this. Don’t lose heart if you are coming from a distance. This is worth the trip.

I am very sorry to say that I will probably not be attending this year. I have come every year since the beginning but between the HUGE jump in the initial registration fee and the price of classes that seemed to have jumped also, it is just too much. The class prices seemed to have jumped-looking at some where you get 3 cards for $25.00 or 1 page layout for $20-25. It is all too steep plus the long lines for the make-it take-its-when you advertise 30 of them but in reality standing in line for the time you have to, you are lucky if you get to do 5. Sorry Archivers-you are pricing yourself out of my pocketbook and I am sure many others also.

I agree with Mary. The prices you charge are way too expensive for a 45 min. class to make a few cards or a page or two. What really bothers me most is you force people to pay $20 plus tax for the make and takes to take one class. I’m sorry but that is riduculous. The lines are SO long for the make and takes and there is no way a person can make all 30 projects. I think I will stay home too this year.
