Scrapbooking and card-making magazines are great for inspiration, but did you know that other magazines have fun ideas for scrapbooking, too? I find lots of ideas within the pages and ads of my favorite magazines, whether it’s a cool color combination, an interesting page layout, or neat typography and title ideas.
This page from a recent issue of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine caught my eye. I loved the cluster of small photos and the clean, simple design. I thought it would be perfect for the first page of my Chicago album!
For my page, I shrunk down about a dozen photos (you can do this using Archiver’s in-store Digital Print Station), arranged them on the page, and added a few embellishments and a title. Simple!
This layout is very versatile and could be used in lots of different ways:
- If you have a child who is about to graduate, place their senior photo in the middle and arrange their school pictures for kindergarten through 11th grade around it. Put it in your album–or better yet, frame it for a display at their graduation open house or in your home.
- Pick your favorite 10-12 photos from the month and make a page. It only takes a little bit of time each month, and after 12 months, you’ll have an entire year’s worth of memories in your album.
- Instead of being overwhelmed by hundreds of photos from an event or holiday (like Christmas), choose your favorites or the ones that really capture the memories you want to remember and create a page. Then, put all the remaining photos in pocket pages.
Enjoy!

Very nice! I like it!!

I did this about 8 years ago when my niece was married….I had so many pictures it was the best way to fit them on a page!!

You can also use Some digital editing/ scrap booking programs to create collages and them print them out!! This saves a little cash, but allows you to do some really cool arrangements with photos!

What size are the 11 photos surrounding the big photo? (you mentioned that you “shrunk” them at archivers…)

Hi Jayne,
My photos are about 2″ x 3″ and then I matted them with white cardstock. Four 2″ x 3″ photos (either all horizontal or all vertical) will fit on a 4″ x 6″ print. At Archiver’s Digital Print Station, you can create photo collages to fit two, three, or four photos on a single 4″ x 6″ print. -
Great layout. I like the idea of using school pictures. It would also be neat
to do parents/kids or grandparents/grandchildren. You could add a tree
trunk and make it a family tree.
